Rusty's Old 50 opening on Old World 3rd
Rusty's Old 50, a bar and restaurant, is coming to the space formerly occupied by The Velvet Room and Martini Mike's, 730 N. Old World 3rd St.
According to owner Robert Smith, who also owns Mixx Nightclub, 904 S. Barclay St., Rusty's will open in two or three weeks.
Rusty's will offer a full bar and classic American fare, including comfort favorites like meatloaf, burgers and more. The interior features an impressive collection of antiques, including a real 1952 Ford truck, a massive clock from Macy's and vintage beer signage.
This Downtown location in Westown is steps from the Shops of Grand Avenue, ESPN Milwaukee, the Frontier Airlines Center and thousands of residents and Downtown office workers.
In 2010, Six Star Holdings was denied a tavern and cabaret license at the location that would have been called Silk East.

Decent concept overall. A bar without the pretentiousness that most bars in Milwaukee have. I give it 3-5 weeks and this bar might just be a winter hot spot. I haven't tried the food however, although I don't believe a food menu was displayed when I visited. I will be sure to recommend and bring friends here.. Major plus for new businesses in downtown Milwaukee.

First time I was there a dog was loose and running around (pretty sure health code would not approve). The outside sign was recently hooked up with an extension cord (still no actual "open sign" - word from the guys inside was, "Jeez, hope the city doesn't mind"). The floor is terribly uneven and begging for a lawsuit. There is a supposed "closed door" VIP room (unfinished) and I was told the that former Playboy models were going to help in promotion. All this with an hint of "Silk" (strip club) vying for the location makes it very suspect. I don't see it lasting long. Not sure the "owners" have done their research. Also heard the GM hiring more staff than he needed expecting most to fail. Who does that? The bartender (self-admitted part owner) couldn't even work his way through a simple game of bar dice (totally clueless). Perhaps the concept of having an old rusty truck in the middle of your bar and a non-private back room may work in the South, its just not Milwaukee. Spur your interest? You're guaranteed to be disappointed. Remember to bring a fake attitude. This is not a place to go and be yourself.

Nice to see something that will fill a void between Mo's and the Hilton. We need something casual and fun for people over 30.

Are those wires hanging from that 32 inch TV? Why even bother with one? But, have a long happy hour with cheap, cheap drinks and it may just see its one year anniversary.
