Enter the Calatrava photo contest

The Milwaukee Art Museum will celebrate 10 years of the Santiago Calatrava-designed Quadracci Pavilion this weekend.

In conjunction with the 10-year anniversary, the Milwaukee Art Museum opens "Building a Masterpiece: Santiago Calatrava and the Milwaukee Art Museum" on Thursday, Sept. 8.

As part of the exhibition, the public is encouraged to enter a photo contest by submitting their photos of the building, from groundbreaking to today.

The entry deadline is Dec. 1. The judging panel will choose first, second and third place winners.

The first place winner will receive a Canon SD95 camera. The second place winner receives a one-year family Milwaukee Art Museum membership and the third place winner gets four admission tickets.

Photos must be of the interior or exterior of the Quadracci Pavilion. Only 12 images may be submitted per contestant. All contestants must be 18 or older and the images can not be copyrighted.

Taliesen West

This weekend I finally got to see Taliesen`s bookend, Taliesen West, which Wright constructed on a craggy Scottsdale hillside later in his life. Like its namesake, this Taliesen, too, feels like part of its setting.

Kohl's Education Center

A 5th grade class from Milwaukee Public Schools` Mary McLeod Bethune Academy was the first to check out the new Kohl`s Education Center at the Milwaukee Art Museum, 700 N. Art Museum Dr., today. The kids were at the museum from 10 a.m. until noon creating art projects and interacting in the the news spaces that are designed to spark creativity and instill an appreciation of art into kids.

"Accidental Genius"
