Milwaukee author and historian Dave Luhrssen's latest book, "Hammer of the Gods," tells the story of Germany's Thule Society and how it figured into the birth of Nazism. Published in hardcover by Potomac Books, the work began as a dissertation at UWM.

Meanwhile, Milwaukee-grown actress Sarah Sokolovic has garnered a major award nomination in New York. She is in some very heady company.

O'Lydia's Bar and Grill is opening an art gallery on its second floor with a party, Friday, May 11, from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. A co-production of Milwaukee Odyssey, the party includes outdoor music and performance, the artists' gallery and Marcus Doucette from 88.9 Sound Travels.

The Milwaukee Ballet will present Peter Pan at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts May 10-13. The work will showcases the same classic storyline and the same impressive special effects (dancers in flight!) as its premiere performance, plus a few added twists.

Last September, a slim but fascinating book appeared during the debut of the amazing Historic Milwaukee, Inc., Doors Open event. Written by Yance Marti, "Missing Milwaukee: The Lost Buildings of Milwaukee" featured the photographs of Alan Magayne-Roshak and Gordy Simons. Now, Marti will do a companion tour, at 5:30 p.m., Friday, May 11.

Windfall Theatre has shown an affinity for Stephen Sondheim musicals during its 19 seasons, and it opens another, "Assassins," in the Village Church tomorrow night. The small company is getting the jump on the Milwaukee Rep, which mounts its production of the same musical in September. Youngblood Theatre Company has opened the satirical drama "Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom," in a Walker's Point basement.

"Mystery Science Theater 3000" may have gone off the air in 1999, but its status as a cult favorite has only continued to grow. Cinematic Titanic, a five-member off-shoot of performers from the show's run, appeared this weekend at the Pabst Theater for a two-night stint, concluding with Saturday's sold-out showing of the 1976 film "The Astral Factor."
